VERY SOON YOU WILL NOT BE CHARGING YOUR PHONE THROUGH A POWER OUTLET BUT BY YOUR BODY MOVEMENT

We have a lot of devices these days, and they all need to be charged. Though there are now pads for
wireless charging , these are still plugged into a power outlet.
Researchers at The University of Buffalo and Chinese Academy of Science have developed a new device that can generate electricity from body movement by harnessing triboelectric charging. This tiny metallic tab could one day allow us to charge our
devices without having to plug them into an
outlet. With this kind of evolution, you don't need to charge your devices using a power outlet

In many cases, the charging process has barely
evolved at all in the past decade or more.
All it takes, according to their research
recently published in the journal Nano Energy, is a
special metallic tab and a little bit of body movement.

The secret is an effect called triboelectric charging,
and it’s something that most people have actually
seen — or felt — before. Triboelectric charging
happens when a material becomes electrically
charged after coming into frictional contact with
another material.
Most static electricity happens this
way, like when you accidentally touch a person and
you get a small shock from it.
This kind of contact electrification has been quite
difficult to turn into a useful power source, although there have been studies that looked into it. Too often, the materials are difficult to produce or are not cost effectiveness. The metallic tab developed by the researchers supposedly overcomes these hurdles.

The tab features two thin layers of gold that sandwich
a slab of a silicon-based polymer called
polydimethylsiloxane , which is typically used in
contact lenses and Silly Putty. One layer of gold is
stretched and then released, causing it to crumple.
Upon applying force again, movement between the
layers of gold and the polymer creates friction.
“This causes electrons to flow back and forth between the gold layers. The more friction, the greater the amount of power is produced,” lead author Yun Xu, a professor of Institute of Semiconductors at CAS, said
in a press release . This friction can come from the
slightest movement of a finger, the researchers
explained.

As a demonstration in their study, the researchers
used a metallic tab that’s only 1.5 cm (0.6 inches)
long and 1 cm (0.4 inches) wide. The small tab
generated 124 volts, with a maximum current and
density that was enough to light 48 red LED lights at
the same time. Though the tech is not quite there yet,
the researchers hope that their material could soon
charge smartphones and other smart gadgets using
just movement.
“No one likes being tethered to a power outlet or
lugging around a portable charger. The human body
is an abundant source of energy. We thought: ‘Why
not harness it to produce our own power?'” lead
author Qiaoqiang Gan, an associate professor of
electrical engineering at University at Buffalo, said in
the press release.
Gan and his colleagues plan to improve the
performance of this triboelectric charging device
while at the same time working on a portable battery
that can be used to store the energy the tab
generates.

MARIJUANA BECOMES A LATEST TREND IN ONLINE SHOPPING

As consumers, we’re obsessed with buying anything we need online ranging from Art supplies, Vitamins to even Adult diapers and we have all delivered to our door in an anonymous box, and without the need to avert your gaze from the cashier.
Apparently, marijuana is no exception — Americans, Indians, Africans are buying weed online in droves.
This news comes courtesy of a study published today in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. It marks the first time anyone has analyzed online marijuana sales by looking at internet searches and the resulting links.

For their study into Americans’ online pot-purchasing behavior, the research team started  with Google. Specifically, they looked at searches
on the platform between January 2005 and June
2017, excluding those from the U.S.’s six least-
populated states.
First, they isolated all the searches including terms
such as “marijuana,” and “weed” in combination
with “buy,” “shop,” or “order.” From that list, they
eliminated searches that were clearly unrelated or
off-topic, such as “order weed killer.” This left them
with 12 terms tied to the thing they actually wanted in buying marijuana through the internet.
Next, they looked at how often people searched those terms each month. They found out that, in their 12 years of study, searches tied to buying weed online increased by 199 percent relative to all searches on the internet. In June 2017, the numbers soared as *high* as 2.4 million in a single month.
The searches weren’t restricted to particular parts of the country — all but two states the researchers
analyzed saw a growing number of searches each
month.
Not content to simply track search totals, the intrepid team also wanted to know where their list of terms would take them online. You know, for research .
In July 2017, they typed each of their pre -determined keywords into Google, hit “search,” and analyzed the first two pages’ worth of links. Of those links, 41 percent were to retailers offering mail-order marijuana. For two-thirds of the searches, the very  link led to such a retailer.
Their conclusion is People aren’t just searching for
weed online. They’re finding it.
This wouldn’t be a problem if buying weed were the same as, say, buying shoes or electronics. Though nine states and Washington D.C. now permit recreational marijuana use, none permit its sale online.

Buying Marijuana online may be more convenient, but there are good reasons why it’s not allowed. When people buy online, states might miss out on the major financial benefit of legalizing recreational marijuana: taxes.
Even more importantly, it’s harder to regulate who is buying the weed. In states where marijuana is legal, buyers must be 21 or older , and it’s far easier for those below that limit to fake their ages online than in person.
The study’s authors noted in a press release that
public health leaders must intervene to prevent these sales, perhaps by convincing internet service
providers (ISPs) to remove mail-order weed retailers from search engines.
Of course, that wouldn’t stop teenagers from
purchasing weed if they were really determined to
get it. But as U.S. states relax their marijuana laws,
the World needs to take precautions to keep the drug out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have it.
Addressing mail-order marijuana seems like a pretty
good place to start.

HERE IS PROBABLY THE REASON WHY YOUR DATA IS BEING USED WITHOUT YOUR CONSENT

Your data is probably being used without your
consent.
This, I guess will not make you feel bad. In fact, it’s one of the biggest takeaways of the recent
investigation involving Facebook and a data mining
company called Cambridge Analytica.
The short version: Cambridge Analytica used a quiz
app to scrape data such as users’ identities, their
friend networks, and likes from millions of Facebook users. Users inadvertantly gave consent by agreeing to the user conditions in the app. The company later used that data to build targeted political ads for Donald Trump’s political campaign, the New York Times, which conducted the investigation along with The Observer , reports.
But who’s to blame for such a massive breach of user privacy? Yes, it’s easy to point a well-deserved finger at Cambridge Analytica, and another at Facebook. But it’s too neat to pin it on those two when the problem is so much larger and insidious.
So the question we need to ask is "WHY IS CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA ALLOWED TO SCRAPE THIS DATA?"
These seem like simple questions, but they’re really
not.
To the first point: Well, the Facebook users that
downloaded the data-scraping app,
this is your digital life, did technically consent to having their data scraped.

We all do this. When we download a new app or sign up for a social media site, we never read the user agreements. They’re boring and we’re impatient. But the truth is they have some  vital information in them. We check “yes” on Terms of
Service agreements, even though we know in the back of our minds the fine print might include an article that
the network plans to sell our information. We could
all stand to be more discerning before downloading
apps and filling out quizzes.
Even more invasive was that Facebook’s terms of
service allowed apps to access friends’ Facebook data as well as the user’s own (this was the case in 2014 and, Facebook has stated, has since changed). That means that any app that was using Facebook at the time could have accessed as much data as Cambridge Analytica did, though it’s not yet clear if other apps did so.
Facebook executives have claimed “everyone involved gave their consent,” as said by vice president and deputy general counsel Paul Grewal.
But that’s patently false. Consent, by nature, has to be informed for people to actually give it.
And another is question is this "WHAT IN THE WORLD IS CAMBRIDGE ANALYTICA DOING WITH
THIS DATA?"
That is, how worried should you be?
Cambridge Analytica says they used this information
to create profiling tools, which were then used to
target political ads at users’ personality traits. In
doing so, many news reports have suggested, the
company helped put Donald Trump into office.
It’s still unclear if that sort of targeting has much
influence. Research suggests that it does not. As The
Verge put it , while misuse of data is a no-no,
suggesting that Facebook likes are enough leverage to influence an election is “almost certainly overstating
Cambridge Analytica’s power.”
Even so, the sort of data that the app was collecting is used by lots of other third parties. It’s incredibly
valuable to advertisers, who can exploit users’
information to target their marketing down to the
individual level. All of this high-tech data collection is in the name of a timeless goal: to get consumers to b buy a product.

Discomfited by the seemingly unlimited power social media has over our information, lawmakers globally have pushed for governments to step in. In a recent review, the New York Times found that, in the past five years, more than 50 countries have passed laws that better regulate how people use, and are protected from, websites.

Most notably, in May, the European Union (EU) will
put new regulations into effect that will ensure users understand when their data is being collected.
The General Data Protection Regulation, or GDPR,
requires that companies identify what data they are collecting and why it’s being collected, and allow consumers to access and control that data. The legislation applies to social media networks, which must comply.
The United States remains one of the few of the
world’s leading countries that has no such legislation in place. Last year, Congress overturned a law that would have prevented internet service providers (ISPs) from selling data without users’ consent.
Legislators have resisted taking any action against
Silicon Valley; broadly, opponents of such regulation assert that these regulations stifle innovation.
But that doesn’t mean that Americans are going to be the only people in the world with their data up for grabs. As the EU’s new laws go into effect, Facebook is launching a new “privacy dashboard” that will help users worldwide exert better control over their privacy settings. Other companies are altering, or even shutting down, their social media advertising and data businesses internationally in response to the GDPR, Wired reports , simply because it’s too difficult to tailor services to the countries with more restrictive laws.
Cambridge Analytica may be the most recent
company found to be taking advantage of the data
users unwittingly hand over to social media sites, but it likely won’t be the last. There’s no telling how
many apps have been doing the same thing. Their
roles may come out in the future, or they could
remain a secret.
GDPR shows the power that legislation can have in
reining in the moneymaking schemes of social media.
If similar laws were passed outside the EU, you
wouldn’t have to worry as much about clicking “I
agree” to any terms of service you damn well please.

COMMISSIONER FOR HAPPINESS AND COUPLES FULFILLMENT URGES IMO MEN TO MARRY TWO WIVES TO REDUCE PROSTITUTION.

The Imo state Commissioner for Happiness, Mrs Ogechi Ololo, has appealed to men in her State to try to marry two or more women and stop the idea of one man , one woman as a way of reducing prostitution and redundancy among Imo state Women.
Speaking in Owerri state capital this morning, Commissioner Ogechi said Imo state has more women than men forcing a lot of unmarried women to commit adultery with other people’s husbands.
The commissioner said according to statistics, out of approximately 3.9 million Imo state indigenes, 3 million are women and only .9 million are men.
“I am not forcing you, but just encouraging you to marry two or more wives to reduce on women staying without husbands”.
Commissioner Ogechi told a conference of about 14,000 men who were receiving training in various life skills in the commercial capital.
“Our women are crying every day due to lack of men to marry and support them economically hence they engage in prostitution. So please try to work hard and be productive so that you can help our women by marrying two or more wives provided you are able to provide for their basic needs”.
“As government, we shall be giving some small incentives to such men provided you don’t abuse your wives”, said Commissioner Ogechi.
Imo state is said to have the highest level of prostitution in South East among young girls and women who are not in school or formal employment

MICRO SYRINGES TO DELIVER ACCURATE DRUGS INTO YOUR BODY SYSTEM WITHOUT FEELING ANY FORM OF PAIN

A fear of needles may soon be a thing of the past, as a team at the University of Texas at Dallas has come up with a painless alternative to conventional syringes.
With the new method, drugs would still be injected into the body, but using a microneedle that patients can’t even feel. The needle is so thin that it would break off under the skin dissolving as it releases the intended substance over time. Although the system wouldn’t work for every kind of medication, ultra thin needles are able to deliver a variety of drugs, provided they are made of small molecules.
The team’s research, published in ChemRxiv, explains that the needles are made using a 3D printing technique known as “fused deposition modeling”, and polylactic acid, a renewable, biodegradable, thermoplastic material that’s been approved for use by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. To achieve the tapered shape, the needles are chemically etched after the printing process. The team is able to create microneedles with tips as small as 1 micrometer or one millionth of a meter, and different needle shapes with a width of 400-600 micrometers. For comparison, a human red blood cell is about 5 micrometers wide.
While hypodermic needles are the standard for giving injections, they can be painful, and leave ugly bruises if not handled with precision. They also produce biohazardous waste. The new microneedles would solve all these problems at once: not only do they make injection painless, and can theoretically be used by just about anyone, but because the needle dissolves under the skin as it delivers the drug, it doesn’t create waste.

One setback to the concept is that while the actual needles can be produced cheaply, the initial design requires expensive photolithographic equipment. However, early results are encouraging: The finished microneedles have been successfully tested on parafilm and pig skin to evaluate their ability to puncture and break off as intended. And according to Cosmos Magazine, the researchers found that applying sideways force worked well, resulting in 84 percent of needles breaking off.
Research into alternative ways to deliver drugs has become increasingly popular in recent years. Last June, scientists from Georgia Tech and Emory University developed a sticker patch equipped with microneedles that could be used to deliver vaccines. In February, researchers from the University of Copenhagen released a study suggesting edible QR codes could be the next step in drug delivery.
Regardless of where the medical community goes, it’s safe to say that patients around the world would welcome painless injections, or no injections at all. Imagine a world in which parents no longer have to convince their children that the scary-looking needle isn’t that bad, even when it is, in fact, terrifying to look at.

WHAT ARCHBISHOP OBINNA SAID TO UCHE NWOSU

His Grace Anthony Obinna, the Archbishop of Owerri, has no
apology for saying that Imo State needs a seasoned administrator
to govern it and not Uche Nwosu. “What we need is a
democratically elected Governor and not a handpicked successor”.
The Archbishop also has no regrets in saying that Governor
Okorocha cannot succeed himself and that pushing for his son-in-
law, Ugwunba Uche Nwosu, to replace him is an indirect way of
doing that, which is unacceptable. That was basically the
beginning of what caused the fracas at a funeral mass at St
Michael’s Catholic Church, Ngwoma, Saturday 3rd of March. Party
supporters loyal to Governor Okorocha and Uche Nwosu, his son-
in-law, caused mayhem and pandemonium at that funeral Mass,
following the Archbishop’s comment and two responses
apparently from an APC and PDP supporter. Then hell was let
loose.
Speaking to the congregation which included Uche Nwosu and the
Governor’s wife, Nkechi, His Grace condemned the idea of
imposing a candidate on the people, and urged the faithful to
register and arm themselves with their voter’s card, for next year’s
election. “You cannot impose anyone on the people. Your vote will
decide. We have become miserable. Imo is now an empty basket.
Rebuilding Imo State and restoring its dignity is a challenge. Get
your voter’s card. Let us vote for mature, responsible citizens who
will serve the people not dominate them,” the Archbishop said. His
Grace also said, “Imo needs a seasoned technocrat who will right
the wrongs and correct several anomalies and hardship inflicted on
the people by the present administration and not the Governor’s
stooge who lacks the experience and maturity needed for such
exalted office. It is wrong to impose his son-in-law. Imo needs a
seasoned administrator, not Uche!” The Archbishop emphasised
that the Governor could not replace himself and imposing his son-
in-law on the people was wrong. He strongly advised the people to
register, get their permanent voter’s cards (PVC) and prepare to
use their votes to get their desired candidate.
The Archbishop’s advice follows a decision of the Catholic Bishops
Conference of Nigeria (CBCN) for the church to help end people’s
apathy towards voting by encouraging the faithful to register and
be prepared to exercise their civic responsibility. While the
Archbishop was speaking at the mass, two other men who raised
their hands were allowed to speak. One of them, obviously a
supporter of Governor Okorocha, defended the Governor saying he
was doing well. The second speaker, however, spoke against the
Governor, saying that there was much poverty and pain in the land,
demanding a change of government in the next election. It was at
that point that APC supporters went berserk. The Bishop was not
physically assaulted but he was insulted.
Meanwhile, a communiqué issued by the Restoration Coalition, a
group from the All Progressive Party (APC), Imerienwe in Ngor
Okpala, L.G.A, condemned what they called the “clandestine
endorsements”, indiscriminate adoption and wanton “anointments”
of certain elements in the APC. “It is quite disturbing that these
endorsements obtained by blackmail, coercion and intimidation are
taking place in the hallowed orbit of the Imo State Government
House under the watch of the Governor. We are embarrassed
because this theatre of absurdity, as we have confirmed, has the
full backing and financial muscles of Imo State Government as the
person being endorsed, one Chief Uche Nwosu, his son-in-law, is
also his serving chief of staff. As a matter of fact, this is an
anomaly and points to a dangerous and destructive party politics of
APC in Imo State,” the Coalition also said.

EZEKWEM - NOBODY OWNS PDP IN IMO STATE

The Peoples Democratic Party in Imo State Friday debunked reports that the party in the State belongs to an individual.
Addressing journalists at the State party secretariat in Owerri, the State party Chairman, Chief Barr Charles Babatunde Ezekwem,
said the insinuation is a wicked rumour circulated by enemies of the party. He said the PDP in Imo State is too large to be owned by one man or for one man to dictate what happens within the
party. Flanked by State party executive members and faithful, Ezekwem said the party is a broad based party with its membership spanning
across the various linguistic, religious or ethnic divides in the country.
“Our membership is not discriminatory. How then can only one man own or monopolize the party” he said.
Ezekwem assured all aspirants of fair-play, urging them to any elective positions to feel free and approach the party for forms and other necessary requirements.
He announced that the party has equally relaxed its waiver for intending members of the party.
“The idea behind this, is to encourage those joining or rejoining
the party to enjoy equal opportunities like other members who
may wish to vie for any elective position ahead of the 2019 general
elections” Ezekwem said
He said the party has reinvigorated its operations at the ward,
local government and state levels, stating that the State Working
Committee has introduced innovations which will make the wards
very vibrant, pro active as the hub of the party’s political
interaction.
The Chairman announced the set up of an Integrity Club, which he
described as an agglutination of Imo people of like minds who are
desirous of partnership with the PDP.
Ezekwem took a swipe at the Rochas Okorocha administration of
the APC describing it as “a representation of reckleness,
corruption, callousness, nepotism, thuggery and irritating
deception”
The Party Chairman condemned the assault on the Catholic
Archbishop of Owerri Catholic Diocese, Archbishop Obinna.
“ Never in the history of governance in this State, have we seen
such irresponsible behavior on the party of government officials,
ditto for the level of corruption and nepotism that have
characterized Okorocha’s administration unabatedly” he said.
He called on Imolites to procure their Permanent Voters Card
which is a legitimate weapon to enthrone a welfarist and
democratic party like the PDP after promising to return power to
the people when re- elected.
“ We are prepared to clean the Augean stable of the APC and fix the State again from 2019. We need the support of Imo people and
Nigerians and by God’s grace, we shall put Imo and Nigeria back on track” he said

LOWER NIGER CONGRESS (LNC)- NIGERIA A CRIMINAL VENTURE MANNED BY A VICIOUS CALIPHATE

Those who do not yet understand that Nigeria is the name of a scam, set up, first by rogue British Colonialists, but currently under the control of their local agents, the Caliphate, operated for the sole purpose of legitimately looting and carting away humongous values of assets, will continue to wonder why bizzare things happen here all the time.

Those who think that we operate in democracy here, must be ignorant of the meaning of Democracy, even by the simplest definition of democracy “Government OF the people, BY the the people and FOR the people”.
Nigeria does not pass the test of any one of these three distinct legs of definition. Our grundnorm (the so-called Constitution), is not OF the people. People in power do not get to power BY the votes of the people. Those who wield power do not apply it FOR the benefit of the people.
It is not by accident that these things are like that.
All the Constitutions that defined the Project, “Nigeria” from the 1914 Order-In-Council, to those of 1922, 1946, 1954 and 1960, all through to the 1963, 1979 and 1999 Constitutions, have been imposed by the proprietors of the criminal enterprise we all call “Nigeria”, with provisions drawn up in keeping with the main objective of the enterprise, which is to loot legitimately, thus you have appropriation provisions that leave the spare keys to the treasury in the hands of the heads of the Executive Branch, an immunity provision that completely shield them from any probe or sanction until they leave office, all against the background of Section 6(6)(c) that relieve the Government of all obligations to the Citizen, by rendering non-justiciable, the entire Chapter 2 of the fraudulent 1999 Constitution which provide all the good things of life to the citizen.
All the institutions of State are designed to service this main objective, including the so-called Judiciary, where the Executive appoints all the Heads and has a monopoly of control over all aspects of the enforcement mechanism (Police).
There is also the 68-item Federal Exclusive Legislative List which comprehensively confiscate both assets and the rights to economically work those assets, from the Federating Regions which were first emasculated to 36 impotent “States” by the proprietors of Nigeria. The 30-item Concurrent List gives overriding powers to the so-called Federal Government.
Between these aforementioned provisions and creations of armed political merchants, avenues for massive corruption are firmly entrenched, the potential beneficiaries are fully protected, while the raped owners are tied, leg and hand, blindfolded and tethered to the pillars of the same Constitution, resulting in a reality of Masters and Slaves, just like the Apartheid Era South Africa.
The biggest shame and insult of the situation is the egregious falsehood in the Preamble of the so-called 1999 Constitution, that “We the People” made and enacted our damnation.
Any Lawyer who does not know these things to be the cause of ALL the anomalies in Nigeria, including corruption, impunity, insecurity, decayed infrastructure and more, must go back and question the curriculum of Jurisprudence in the University where he or she studied Law.
On the other hand, any Lawyer who know all these, but goes around trying to uphold the “Human Rights” of Nigerians under the so-called 1999 Constitution, must re-examine his own intentions.
Slaves have no rights. It is that simple. The situation of Nigerians under this imposed Constitutional Regime is no different from that of the Blacks in Apartheid Era South Africa.
The only difference is that
whereas in South Africa two honest Lawyers named Oliver Thambo and Nelson Mandela told the suffering Blacks of South Africa the truth about the source of their misery which is the Apartheid Constitution, we have in Nigeria, a preponderance of Lawyers who leave intact the source of the misery of the people being the so-called 1999 Constitution, and lead them in some kind of wil-o-the-wisp chase of either the nonexistent human right, or the complaints and campaigns against corruption.
Now the long hibernating Caliphate which imposed the debilitating Constitution 1999, has finally seized power at the center and having successfully incapacitated all points of resistance, is in a ferocious drive to destroy, oust and replace the bogus Nigerian State.
Being firmly on the saddle atop the Executive Branch and all the arm-bearing institutions of State,(Police, Army, Air Force, Customs, Immigration, DSS etc) the Caliphate cowed the Legislative Branch into complete submission, brandishing the Corruption Sword.
Now the siege has moved to the Judicial Branch, again with the Corruption Sword.
Nobody seems to read correctly the meaning of the so-called Fulani herdsmen bloody Southward unchallenged rampage sweeping from Plateau, to Benue, through Southern Kaduna all the way to Enugu with heavy armoured Tanks already rolling over Port Harcourt, Aba and Warri on the Atlantic Waterfront, under the watch of a Caliphate Fulani President and Commander-in-Chief.
It is a great pity that those who should know and explain to other what the nature of the evil is, that has come upon the land, are either too ignorant, or timid or dishonest to so do.
In case anyone does not yet know, just like ISIS is trying to oust and replace the States of Syria and Iraq with its Caliphate self, so is the Sokoto (Nigerian) Caliphate trying to destroy, oust and replace the already weakened Nigerian State with itself.
CONQUEST and ISLAMIZATION is the campaign but ignorance and dishonesty hold sway in the land.

The LNC and its MNN Partners are vigorously advancing the task of dissolving and dismantling the Lugardian Nigeria returning the sovereignty of the entrapped constituent components so that each bloc goes off to repair its own Society damaged by the failed Lugardian experiment tagged “Nigeria”

JONATHAN'S REPLY: DEAR BUHARI, LYING IS CORRUPTION

I have just read President Buhari’s speech to the All Progressive
Congress members who visited him at the Presidential Villa on
Monday the 26th of February, 2018.
It is rather unfortunate that a man who once deceived the nation
with his fabled ‘integrity’ can descend so low as to spew forth very
obvious lies and a revision of history.
If nothing else justifies the Transparency International Corruption
Perception Index rating which revealed that corruption in Nigeria
has worsened under President Buhari, this latest Presidential
Speech does.
In psyching up the APC for 2019, the President, obviously aware of
the defeat that awaits him and his lying brigade, said as follows:
“It is easy to forget that we succeeded a government with a record
of unprecedented theft and systematic mismanagement. Nigeria
was fast heading for a state of collapse. It is easy to forget the fuel
subsidy fraud, arms fund diversion, depleted excess Account
savings, depleted foreign reserves, massive unpaid debts to
contractors and suppliers amidst failure to invest or even maintain
our infrastructure namely railways, roads, electricity, in spite of
having earned over US$500 billion from Oil & Gas alone, during the
16 years of PDP rule. Lest we forget, we must always remind
ourselves of the dire situation in which we came to office.”
I will now take each of these points one by one to prove that we
have a man who has no credibility in President Buhari.
First and foremost, it is true that there is “unprecedented theft and
systematic mismanagement”, but such activities are taking place
under President Buhari, rather than the preceding administration.
The Peoples Democratic Party government of President Goodluck
Jonathan dismissed Abdulrasheed Maina, the biggest alleged thief
in Nigeria’s civil service history, and declared him wanted. The
incumbent APC government of President Muhammadu Buhari
brought him back, reinstated him and gave him double promotion.
Furthermore, the President, through his Attorney General of the
Federation, went to court to block the Senate’s attempt to unravel
how Abdulrasheed Maina was smuggled back to Nigeria and given
armed guards. We already know the truth about that as revealed in
the leaked memo from the Head of the Civil Service, Mrs. Winifred
Eyo-Ita.
At a sworn testimony in the National Assembly by the immediate
past acting Director General of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency,
Nigerians were also regaled with details of how a cabal in the
Presidency tried to get him to share the $44 million Ikoyi Apartment
loot with them.
The nation has still not forgotten the allegation by the Minister of
State for Petroleum, Mr. Ibe Kachikwu, whose leaked memo
revealed that the GMD of NNPC, Maikanti Baru, awarded $25 billion
worth of contracts without due process.
On the second allegation that “Nigeria was fast heading for a state
of collapse. It is easy to forget the fuel subsidy fraud, arms fund
diversion, depleted excess Account savings” the President,
characteristically, lied.
Nigeria under the PDP government of Dr. Jonathan was not
heading to collapse. As a matter of fact, the nation was projected
by CNNMoney to be the third fastest growing economy in the world
after China and Qatar in 2015. The British Government projected us
to be the fourth fastest growing economy in the world, with the
then British Prime Minister, David Cameron saying as follows:
“Yes, we’ve been hearing about China and India for years but it’s
hard to believe what’s happening in Brazil, in Indonesia, in Nigeria
too.”
Contrary to what President Buhari said, it was precisely under his
rule that Nigeria entered its first recession in 25 years just a year
after he took over a vibrant economy that was growing at 6% under
the PDP.
Nigerians will recall that the recession was self induced by
President Buhari’s refusal to name a cabinet six months after
being sworn in and his flip flopping economic policy that saw the
Naira collapse to ₦510 to $1 leading to an unprecedented capital
flight out of Nigeria.
It will further be remembered that whereas President Buhari said
he did not know what fuel subsidy is and called it a fraud, it was
revealed last December that the Buhari administration had been
paying subsidy on fuel without appropriations from the National
Assembly, despite increasing the pump price of petrol from the
₦85 per liter that President Jonathan reduced it to to the current
pump price of ₦145 per liter.
On the third allegation of “failure to invest or even maintain our
infrastructure namely railways, roads, electricity”, the facts speak
for itself.
The preceding Jonathan administration completely built the 187 KM
super fast Abuja-Kaduna railway that enables Nigerians live in
Kaduna and work in Abuja. That same administration began the
Lagos-Ibadan railway and the Loko-Oweto bridge, rebuilt the Benin-
Ore road and the Vom-Manchok road.
President Goodluck Jonathan also built and commissioned the 500
megawatts Omotosho Power Plant Phase 2 with four gas turbines
in Ondo State on Saturday October 19, 2013. He also built and
commissioned the 750 megawatts Olorunsogo power plant on
Friday the 20th of February, 2015 and on Wednesday the 25th of
March, 2015 he commissioned the 504 MW simple cycle Gas Alaoji
Power station in Aba, Abia State.
In the education sector, the PDP administration of President
Jonathan built 14 new federal universities, including the ONLY
federal university in President Buhari’s home state of Katsina, as
well as 169 almajiri schools all over Nigeria.
It will also be recalled that that administration revived the Nigerian
Railway Corporation which went moribund when President Buhari
was a military dictator in 1985.
Having listed these verifiable projects with their dates of
completion, I challenge the Buhari administration to name one
project they have initiated and completed in their three years in
office. The fact is that the only project they have started and
finished in three years is the helipad built by the Federal
Government in Daura for President Buhari’s personal use.
From the facts listed above, it should be clear to the nation that
President Buhari and the APC intend to repeat the lies and
propaganda they used to deceive the Nigerian people in 2015 such
as the President’s promise to make ₦1 equal to $1, his promise to
provide 24 hours uninterrupted electricity supply and his promise
to create 3 million jobs per annum even though 10 million jobs
have been lost since May 29, 2015.
Let me seize this opportunity to remind President Buhari that lying
is corruption and you may be able to fool some people all the time,
but you cannot fool all the people all of the time.

NIGERIA DECIDES 2019: OSITA IHEME INDICATES INTEREST IN CONTESTING FOR FEDERAL HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE

Popular Nollywood actor, Osita Iheme, has revealed his interest to serve the people of Mbaitolu/Ikeduru Federal Constituency of Imo State as their Representative in the Federal House of Representatives in 2019.

The actor dropped the hint in Lagos over the weekend when he was spotted at the Eko Hotels & Suites, Lagos during a meeting between presidential hopeful, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, and Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, and Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus. He spoke exclusively to Uchechukwu Ugboaja.

However, it could not be confirmed whether the well travelled African actor was part of the exclusive political meeting held in Lagos, but when asked if he was considering dropping his acting profession that had brought him fame and fortune for politics, Iheme said that politics would not be for him a strange terrain.

“For now, I am still considering going into politics to serve. As you know I already understand what it means to represent my people because I have been an African movie ambassador for several years so politics would not be a strange terrain for me but I will make it official after due consultations”, he said.

The popular Nollywood star also known as “Paw Paw” would not be the first Nigerian actor or entertainer to throw in his hat into the political terrain as several others including Desmond Elliot, Dayo Adeleye aka D1, Kenny Saint Brown, amongst others, have ventured into politics.

Although the Ubomiri, Mbaitolu, Owerri born actor revealed that Nigerians should not be surprised if he is spotted often in Abuja ahead of 2019 general elections, he said that he knows that he has whatever it takes to get the support of his people when the time comes.

The 36 years-old actor is however yet to reveal what political platform he would be running on despite being spotted in a meeting dominated by PDP big wigs but he is certainly ‘Not too young to run’.

TUNDE BAKARE: I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHAT BUHARI WAS DOING IN A WEDDING WHEN 110 GIRLS ARE MISSING

Tunde Bakare, the senior pastor of the Latter Rain Assembly (LRA), says he cannot understand what President Muhammadu Buhari and 22 state governors were doing at the Kano wedding, while 110 Dapchi schoolgirls are still in captivity. On Saturday, at least 22 governors convereged on Kano, to celebrate the wedding of Idris Ajimobi and Fatima Ganduje, offsprings of Abiola Ajimobi, and Ibrahim Ganduje, governors of Oyo and Kano states, respectively. Also in attendance was the president, and high-ranking members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), including Bola Tinubu, former governor of Lagos state. Bakare says the wedding, which came two days after Boko Haram killed some UN aid workers in Rann, and two weeks after the abduction of the Dapchi school girls in Yobe, shows the insensitivity of Nigerian leaders. “Forgive my ill-mannerism, but I could not comprehend why a governor will celebrate the wedding of his daughter, and another governor of his son, on the front pages of newspapers, flashing it before our eyes, when other peoples’ daughters are in captivity,” Bakare said. “If any of them had lost a daughter in that captivity, would they celebrate that way? I know the Bible says rejoice with them that rejoice, but I do not know what the president of Nigeria was doing there. “And somebody came to say, let me explain to you, it is Islamic tradition, before this time, about January, they had agreed, that he (Buhari) will be the one to give the bride away and (Bola) Tinubu will be the one to pay the dowry, and present the son, and they agreed long before now. “I looked at him and said the president of Nigeria wanted to come to my daughter’s wedding, and I said to him, sir, don’t come. That is beneath your office. Face the work of the state and keep serving. “And 22 governors showed up to mark register, when 110 daughters of citizens of your nation were captured by Boko Haram that you said you have already technically defeated? “It just shows how insensitive our leaders are. We have gotten to a stage that our president has become a king and a monarch. That his son who rode his pleasurable bike that almost claimed his life, will be returning from an overseas trip, where he had received special healthcare that Nigerians cannot afford, that it took a whole minister of state to go and welcome him, because he has no job.” Speaking at the Latter Rain Assembly on Sunday, Bakare said anyone who knows the true state of things in Nigeria will weep for the country. “If you truly know the truth, you will weep, if you know how much we are owing as a nation, you will weep. For 16 years of PDP they borrowed N6 trillion, for three years of APC, they borrowed N11 trillion. “And they are not going to pay the debt. You and I, and our children, and our children’s children will pay the debt, unless they write them off again.”

Any person found guilty of any form of hate speech that results in the death of another person shall die by hanging upon conviction, reads a new bill by the Senate .The bill , which reflects the growing concern over the spate of violence in the nation, was sponsored by the spokesman of the upper chamber , Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi ( APC , Niger ).

                      Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi

It also seeks the establishment of an ‘ Independent National Commission for Hate Speeches ’ , which shall enforce hate speech laws across the country , ensure the elimination of the menace and advise the Federal Government. For offences such as harassment on the grounds of ethnicity or racial contempt , a culprit shall be sentenced to “not less than a five- year jail term or a fine of not less than N10 million or both .”

The bill notes : “A person who uses, publishes, presents, produces, plays , provides, distributes and / or directs the performance of any material , written and /or visual , which is threatening, abusive or insulting or involves the use of threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, commits an offence , if such person intends thereby to stir up ethnic hatred , or having regard to all the circumstances, ethnic hatred is likely to be stirred up against any person or person from such an ethnic group in Nigeria .”

It notes that “a person subjects another to harassment on the basis of ethnicity for the purposes of this section where , on ethnic grounds , he unjustifiably engages in a conduct which has the purpose or effect of
a ) violating that other person’ s dignity or
b ) creating an intimidating , hostile, degrading , humiliating or offensive environment for the person subjected to the harassment.

“Conduct shall be regarded as having the effect specified in subsection ( 1 ) ( a ) or ( b ) of this section if, having regard to all the circumstances , including in particular the perception of that other person, it should reasonably be considered as having that effect.” The National Commission for Hate Speeches shall be headed by an executive chairperson who would be appointed by the president on recommendation of the National Council of State, subject to the confirmation of at least two- third majority of the National Assembly.

The commission shall discourage persons , institutions, political parties and associations from advocating or promoting discrimination or discriminatory practices through the use of hate speeches ; promote tolerance, understanding and acceptance of diversity in all aspects of national life and encourage full participation by all ethnic communities in the social , economic, cultural and political life of other communities .It shall also plan , supervise , coordinate and promote educational and training programmes to create public awareness, support and advancement of peace and harmony among ethnic communities and racial groups .

It shall furthermore promote respect for religiouss, cultural , linguistic and other forms of diversity in a plural society; promote equal access by persons of all ethnic communities and racial groups to public or other services and facilities provided by the government.

The Senate also disclosed that its bid to pass the 2018 budget was being frustrated by ministers and heads of parastatals who have refused to provide details on allocations to their ministries.Without mentioning names , the upper chamber issued a fresh seven working - day ultimatum to the affected ministries.

Similar ultimatums in the past had done little to facilitate the budget preparation .The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Appropriation , Sunny Ogbuoji , said : ”

The majority of the Ministries , Departments and Agencies are not coming forward to interface with the standing committees. Some of the ministers will tell you they are going outside the country , and because of that , the MDAs are not fully ready .”

The Senate President , Bukola Saraki, stressed that the upper chamber wants the process concluded as early as possible , regretting: “The perception is that it is the parliament that delays these things. ”He said:

“The Senate Majority Leader will communicate and get in touch with the executive arm of government , so that these MDAs can be told to play their part to ensure that this exercise can be completed.

“I appeal to all these ministers and managing directors that keep on travelling that this is a time for them to be on ground and ensure that they finish this report.” The Deputy Senate President , Ike Ekweremadu , said it was unfair for the heads of parastatals to “hold the country down.” He noted : “It has come to a stage where we have to consider taking what has already been presented by the president from those MDAs as the position of the MDAs , instead of waiting for them for ever .
